Sphera Introduces Enhanced Product Stewardship Software to Ensure Compliance With Upcoming GHS Implementations & more Effectively manage Confidential Business Information Requirements

CHICAGO, IL (July 10, 2017) – Sphera, the leading global provider of Operational Risk, Environmental Performance and Product Stewardship software solutions, today announced the release of Compliance Engine for EH&S 4.8, a uniquely enhanced version of its content solution for SAP® EHS software.

Compliance Engine for EH&S, which was launched several years ago, delivers regulatory data, rule sets, phrases, templates and configuration tools to automate Safety Data Sheet authoring in a company’s SAP EHS environment. Version 4.8 continues to incorporate enhancements to ensure companies will be able to stay in compliance with new and updated GHS implementations. Notably both Mexico and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) have upcoming GHS deadlines that will require companies to evaluate their product portfolio and apply the applicable GHS classifications to create compliant Safety Data Sheets.

In addition, as many in the industry are aware, protecting confidential business information can be tricky when it comes to hazard communication. Specifically for Canada, this requires filing and obtaining Hazardous Materials Information Review Act registration numbers and managing the expiration of such claims on a three-year rotation. The latest version of Compliance Engine for EH&S includes functionality to help with many of these challenges. For instance, the solution now allows you to finely control the output of hazardous ingredients in Section 3 of the Safety Data Sheet and track claims against renewal dates.

This latest version of Compliance Engine for EH&S also continues to evolve unique functionality to tailor the authoring system to company requirements. The Rule Editor enables regulatory experts to change or create rules for automating the application of phrases in all Safety Data Sheets sections. The Rule Mapping Editor provides the ability to relate a rule output to a property so that related business processes can be standardized.

“This is a path that we started on a while back,” said Frank Arcadi, Sphera’s vice president of Product Stewardship. “Our customers are now able to leverage functionality such as rule editing and tailoring to better control product assessment outputs in addition to the Settings Editor, which allows them to enforce decisions about regulatory variables and grey areas affecting the content of their Safety Data Sheets. This truly empowers the regulatory experts to efficiently automate their Safety Data Sheets and Labels without the need to involve IT or outside consultants.”

A pioneer in Product Compliance, Sphera has partnered with companies that have trusted their solutions to standardize and streamline compliance processes and enable them to produce fully compliant Safety Data Sheets and other mandated hazard communication documents on a global basis in more than 45 languages.
